Your name or any nicknames you have?

Noelle Coley

Where are you at in the world? Where will you be?

I live in Denver, Colorado. This year I’m hoping to squeeze in some time for Red Fish but already in the books is a Montana trip. I just got back from fishing for Steelhead on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington, it was a blast!

What river(s) and lake(s) do you guide/fish?

I fish all over CO, I travel every weekend to explore new places. I fish South Platte, the Roaring Fork, the eagle, lots of tailwaters, alpine lakes and more.

How long have you been guiding/fly fishing?

I have been fly fishing consistently for 4 years now.

What got you into fly fishing? When did you start?

I was 21 when I started fly fishing, I had fished with spin rods my entire life and I was intrigued by a more interactive way of fishing.

Why do you fly fish?  What does it “do” for you?

Fly fishing takes me to places I never would’ve gone to just “go”. I have witnessed so many amazing places, animals, people, experiences, etc. For me, fly fishing challenges and empowers me and I like that.

If you own and use a Rod Vault, what do you like about you Rod Vault?

I actually have one on the way, can’t wait!

As a woman guide/angler, you’re definitely in the minority.  What made you decide to be a guide/angler?

I didn’t really worry about being a woman angler when I first started fly fishing I just did it because I enjoyed doing it… it didn’t start to bother me until I realized how much you are underestimated.

Has the fact you’re a female ever been an issue with a client or other angler (such as them hitting on you or maybe talking down to you?)  If so how did you manage it/them?

I definitely have experienced both; personally I just ignore it.

What is a piece of advice you want to give to other anglers or a tip/trick that has helped you grow as an angler?

Always keep a good attitude! I struggle and get frustrated but at the end of the day it’s a learning process and if it was easy it wouldn’t be worth it!

What’s your favorite new piece of gear?

My Umpqua Tongas waterproof hip pack, that thing is a gift from heaven!

What is your favorite fly? (To tie, or catch fish on?)

My favorite (and lucky) fly is a red midge.

Best catch of all time?

My most memorable fish is my personal best, I really worked for it and I love that feeling of accomplishment.

What’s your “Dream Trip”?

It would have to be a trip to New Zealand, fishing there is something I’ve always dreamed about doing.

What are some of the best places you’ve been fishing?

The Roaring Fork has been fishing really well.
