Your name or any nicknames you have?

Jean-Marie Bousquet but I go by Jean.

Where are you at in the world? Where will you be fishing this year?

Steamboat Springs is home, located in the northwest mountains of Colorado. There are a plethora of fly fishing opportunities right in my backyard, but I have plans to fish new water in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

What river(s) and lake(s) do you fish?

The Yampa, it runs right through the middle of town and the Elk.

How long have you been fly fishing?

Growing up in Colorado, I spent a lot of time outdoors which included hiking to lakes with my family as a kid. Fishing was something fun to do when we made it to the lake and was good motivation from my dad to actually make it there. I didn’t pick up a fly rod till 2 years ago though.

What got you into fly fishing? When did you start?

Since a kid I’ve always been involved in the Mountain lifestyle. Snowboarding, skateboarding, and mountain biking consumed a lot of my free time, and fly fishing was always something I wanted to learn. My boyfriend Dave taught me how to fly fish 2 years ago and since then its consumed nearly all my free time. It’s taken us to some incredibly scenic places.

Why do you fly fish?  What does it “do” for you?

To put it simply- The challenge and confidence that comes from every outing on the water.

As a woman angler, you’re definitely in the minority.  What made you decide to be an angler?

Easy, because its fun!

What is a piece of advice you want to give to other anglers or a tip/trick that has helped you grow as an angler?

Spend a lot of time on the water, the more time you spend actually fly fishing the more you will learn! Also don’t stop learning when you think you’ve got it down. Every day spent on the water is an opportunity to learn something new.

What’s your favorite new piece of gear?

The best thing I did this winter was upgrade my wading boots. After a long winter of hiking further than usual to reach the water, I am grateful to have a pair of the Redington Siren boots.

Best catch of all time?

My very first big brown on the Green river in Utah. It was the first real fight I’d ever experienced and a team effort between Dave and I.

What’s your “Dream Trip”?

Montana, New Zealand, Belize, Iceland- basically any opportunity to fish new water would be a dream trip.
