Your name or any nicknames you have?
Where are you at in the world? Where will you be fishing this year?
Residing in CO rocky mountains and will be fishing Colorado and Alaska this year.
What river(s) and lake(s) do you guide/fish?
I fish many tail waters year around but am no stranger to reservoirs or high alpine lakes.
How long have you been guiding/fly fishing?
I have been fly fishing for 5 years
What got you into fly fishing? When did you start?
My husband came home with a fly rod from a business trip. Since we only had one rod we would argue who got to go out and use it since we lived right by the Fraser river.
“Why” do you fly fish? What does it “do” for you?
As a mom to two young children getting out to the river is my “me” time equivalent to going shopping or getting a pedicure. When I am not fishing alone, I am fishing with my family as our whole lives revolve around fly fishing. Fly fishing is life.
Why do people come to YOU for guiding; what is different, for your clients, about their experience being guided by you?
Well, I am not an official guide (yet). I do find bringing friends and acquaintances with 0 to little fly experience out on the river a joy! From the drive and scenery to scooping their first fish up into that basket. I find that teaching and sharing my fly knowledge with others is an equivalent high as landing that big donkey in the net.
Why do you love guiding?
Connecting folk with nature, water, and fish!
If you own and use a Rod Vault, what do you like about you Rod Vault?
Again, with two small kids the rod vault has literally saved hooks in fingers and tangled line. Not to mention how quickly we can get to the river… Also more inclined to stop at those random fishing holes!
As a woman guide/fly angler, you’re definitely in the minority. What made you decide to be a guide/angler?
Since I was a kid I was always drawn towards the “male” sports such as hockey and motocross. I didn’t bat an eye when I picked up a fly rod and hit up the rivers with the guys!
Has the fact you’re a woman ever been an issue with a client (such as them hitting on you or maybe talking down to you? If so how did you deal with it/them?
I have a several instances with both flirting and talking down. Kill em with smart a** kindness and let it go on a professional level. Luckily I have never dealt with anything more serious but as a female angler who fishes alone quite often I do suggest you carry spray, knife, or if in a open carry state a gun. Wether you encounter a creep or wild animal it gives me a sense of security so I can focus on fishing!
Do you think being a woman gives you a different perspective as a guide? If so, how?
I do. Being a women angler only drives me harder to become the best angler I can. I see the fly world as my oyster.
What’s your favorite new piece of gear?
I would have to say my new Syndicate 10’3. It’s pretty magical.
Best catch of all time?
All of them! Haha… A trout gal at heart but last winter nailing a tarpon with the perfect cast under a mangrove with my black and purple bunny fly while getting bit by at least 100 bugs and sweating my buns off! The take was epic and the fight was one for the books.
What’s your “Dream Trip”?
Kamatchka, as a Russian I would love to travel back to some of my roots.
What are some of the best places you’ve been fishing?
Is this a trick question? I love Wyoming.
How do people get hold of you for guiding / sponsorship?
