Your name or any nicknames you have?
Because most people say my name incorrectly my friends make fun of me and introduce me as Lemon, Elmer, Aluminum, and even Illuminati.. they’re weird. I usually tell people who have trouble with my name to call me Lena or Lemon.
Where are you at in the world? Where will you be fishing this year?
I live in So Cal and usually travel to the Sierras and Idaho!
What river(s) and lake(s) do you guide/fish?
I dont have many rivers locally being from San Diego County, there are a few secret places but 90% of my fishing is saltwater, I travel up and down the coast from Santa Barbra to Mission Bay.
How long have you been guiding/fly fishing?
I really got into fly fishing about 4 years ago after high school and have been obsessed ever since.
What got you into fly fishing? When did you start?
I grew up fishing but I took interest when my boyfriend’s dad found his old fly rod and it reminded me of an episode of Spongebob when they can’t do karate and the guy fly fishing reminds them of it! haha So I guess you could say Spongebob got me into fly fishing.
Why do you fly fish? What does it “do” for you?
Fly fishing really helps me with my anxiety. It takes you to the most beautiful places and sometimes you forget there is even a world off the water.
If you own and use a Rod Vault, what do you like about you Rod Vault?
If I had a Rod Vault I would use that thing everyday! So convenient when I go fishing after work and every minute counts before the sun goes down! I really gotta buy one..
As a woman guide/angler, you’re definitely in the minority. What made you decide to be a guide/angler?
I personally am not someone who cares what others think, I just like to do what makes me happy and if that means wet fish and soggy waders so be it.
Has the fact you’re a female ever been an issue with a client or other angler (such as them hitting on you or maybe talking down to you?) If so how did you manage it/them?
I think this comes more into play in my work life, I work at Hatch Outdoors and do all of their marketing and I know everything there is to know about our products and fly fishing in general. and I have seen first hand people who dont take me seriously because I am a female. They assume I’m the receptionist or that I dont fish. They go out of there way to get the same answers I give them from one of the guys. It can be quite frustrating but at the end of the day I know their opinion doesnt matter and that I dont need to prove myself to anyone.
What is a piece of advice you want to give to other anglers or a tip/trick that has helped you grow as an angler?
Keep fishing. Even if you dont catch fish I guarantee you’ll improve or learn something new.

What is your favorite fly? (To tie, or catch fish on?)
