Where are you at in the world? Where will you be fishing this year?

I live and love life in Charleston South Carolina where we also fish frequently for redfish,  we visit Abaco Bahamas and Montana each year.

What river(s) and lake(s) do you guide/fish?

The Kiawah river is my fave but any marsh areas around Charleston are our local waters for fishing and guiding. As far as inshore fly fishing goes, and nearshore trips are fun to target larger species on fly such as cobia and amberjack.

How long have you been guiding/fly fishing?

I've been fishing all my life with my dad, granddad, brother, and cousins. My husband is a charter captain and taught me how to fly fish in 2012.

What got you into fly fishing? When did you start?

My sweet husband when we were first dating 😊❤️

Why do you fly fish?  What does it “do” for you?

It gives me peace of mind and allows me to decompress from the grind of the real world as some may call it - I love being outside and spending time with the essence of nature, both alone or with my family.

As a woman guide/angler, you're definitely in the minority.  What made you decide to be a guide/angler?

I will agree there is a culture around fly fishing, but I got into fly fishing because I had so much fun learning, enjoyed the challenge of hooking a fish, and the excitement of fighting a fish on fly. Being a woman is irrelevant to that whole experience. I'm just happy more women are finding the passion in the sport!

Has the fact you’re a female ever been an issue with a client or other angler (such as them hitting on you or maybe talking down to you?)  if so how did you manage it/them?

I have never been treated differently because I'm a woman, except for positive vibes, like... “damn girl, thats a nice fish!” which is totally empowering and contagious for other women. I have heard friends tell me its tough for their husbands to explain how to cast, and when fish are around, that can be frustrating to the point of quitting. My advice is if you have interest in learning, take a class!

Do you think being a woman gives you a different perspective as an angler/guide?  If so, how?

Yes! We can be more patient - lol.

What is a piece of advice you want to give to other anglers or a tip/trick that has helped you grow as an angler?

Practice your cast frequently. Watch videos, take classes, and take someone fishing for their first time - it’s awesome to take it back to the basics!

What’s your favorite new piece of gear?

I'm in love with Freefly apparel and also love Tacky fly boxes!

What is your favorite fly? (to tie, or catch fish on?)

Tailers beware and the ficken chinger 😂

Best catch of all time?

 My husband (Captain John Irwin)

What's your "Dream trip"?
